Freestyle pulling isolates the arms to focus on the pull pattern by eliminating your kick.
There are two variations of this drill which you can choose between, depending on your comfort level and access to equipment. The variations are as follows:
Pulling with a pull buoy
Pulling with a pull buoy and paddles
How to do the drill
When pulling with a pull buoy, keep your head down, looking at the bottom of the pool. Keep your elbows high and finger tips pointed down. Emphasize your reach and rotation to maintain consistency between arm strokes.
