What are HeadCoach™ Plans?
Generating Your Plan
To start a HeadCoach™ Plan, you can tap in through your My Plan link on the Home tab, or from the Plans heading under the Workouts tab. You will also be invited to create a plan when you set or edit your Objective.
Your Objective will be used to build the plan style (for technique, fitness, a planned race etc). If the Objective doesn't reflect your goals for the plan, you should modify it before generating the HeadCoach™ Plan.
You will then need to select the length of the plan (if the plan is not tied to a race), and the number of swims per week.
Race Plans
If you are preparing for a triathlon, open water or pool race, you can set your race date in the calendar when adding your Objective, and HeadCoach™ will automatically break your training into 3 phases:
- The Base Phase, to build your foundation
- The Build Phase, to prepare you for the specific demands of your race
- The Taper Phase, to rest and sharpen your performance for race day
HeadCoach™ will use your race date to build the plan backwards from that date. If there's enough time, there will be Base, Build, and Taper phases. If your race is too soon for the full phases, your plan will be contracted and focus on the areas of biggest gain.
We recommend selecting to swim at least twice per week for race plans to ensure you’ll be able to work towards your race goals.
How Your Plan Is Built
Aside from your Objective, HeadCoach™ uses the following to build your plan:
- Your recent average swimming pace and training volume
- Your Swimmer Type
- Your Top Priority HeadCoach™ Skill
How Your Plan Adapts
HeadCoach™ will keep track of changes in your pace, training volume and technique, to adjust and update future workouts. Your plan may be adjusted if:
- Your recommended focus changes
- Your top priority skill changes
- You do not swim the complete workout (e.g. you have to cut the workout short and end up swimming a shorter distance)
- You swim a longer swim than your workout (e.g. if you select to "keep swimming" once the workout is complete, adding distance to your swim)
When you are presented with the information that your plan has been adjusted, you can choose to accept or reject the proposed changes.
